Nutshell Review: In the Land of Saints and Sinners

PG Score: 7/10

In the Land of Saints and Sinners has some epic action sequences

In the Land of Saints and Sinners was released in theaters on 3/29/24

Beautiful vistas make In the Land of Saints and Sinners a great movie to see on the big screen. Though I have bad memories of being stuck in an Irish airport for 24 hours, the filming on location adds a nice authentic quality to the film. Set in the 1970s, we get to see what happens when suspects in an IRA bombing run across a retired assassin looking for a quiet life in a beautiful isolated Irish town he has settled in.

Wecome Back!

Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones) makes his triumphant return to the big time as a youthful assassin who really enjoys life and sees it as a big joke. He adds much-needed levity to this foreboding story. Not his first role since leaving Game of Thrones, but definitely his most prominent, and I for one think it is great to see him working again. Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) is at her best as the thuggish IRA soldier doing whatever it takes to find out what happened to her douchebag brother.

Imagery and Action

Two immovable forces are heading for a showdown and death is the only way for it to finish, in Liam Neeson’s (Michael Collins) finest crime-thriller performance since Taken. Looking to change his life, Neeson plays the reluctant killer called back to action to a tee, as he tries to do the right thing and correct both his and other people's wrongs.

This is a seductively explosive film. In the Land of Saints and Sinners draws you in with its greenery, beauty, and everyday people; only to end all of that when revenge and politics get involved. Great cast and strong acting throughout, the conclusion of the film will have you chewing on your nails with anticipation as you eagerly await the outcome of just who is going to survive!
